Betsey Johnson is an American fashion designer born in 1942 known for her exuberance and her funny and innovative fashion style.
Her distinguishing features are femininity, the use of bright colors, joy and everything that reflects the kawaii philosophy: feeling good about themselves!
Betsey Johnson also is known for doing a cartwheel at the end of her fashion shows.

Alla fine degli anni ‘60 Betsey Johnson diventa una delle rappresentati del movimento Youthquake, che coinvolge arti, moda e musica nel riflettere uno stile di vita giovane e gioioso. Assieme a lei fanno parte di questo movimento il mito Andy Warhol, la designer Mary Quant (la mamma della minigonna e degli hot pants come ben sappiamo), le modelle Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy, Penelope Tree, Veruschka ed Edie Sedgwick. Nello stesso background troviamo nel campo musicale The Velvet Underground, Edie Sedgwick e Lou Reed.
Betsey Johnson sarà anche la moglie di John Cale dei The Velvet Underground per un breve periodo della sua vita.

Betsey Johnson became part of the Youthquake movement in the late 60s, which reflects a young and happy lifestyle through art, fashion and music. Along with her this movement was also followed by the great Andy Warhol, the designer Mary Quant (creator of the mini skirt and hot pants, as we know), the models Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy, Penelope Tree, Veruschka and Edie Sedgwick. Talking about music we find The Velvet Underground, Edie Sedgwick and Lou Reed in the same background.
Betsey Johnson was also the wife of John Cale of The Velvet Underground for a short time of life.

La carriera di fashion designer di Betsey Johnson prende il volo lavorando per il brand “Alley Cat” negli anni ‘70 e nel ‘78 fonda finalmente il suo marchio, liberando così pienamente la sua creatività.

Her career as fashion designer took off working for the brand “Alley Cat” in the 70s and she finally founded her own brand in 1978 thus she unleashed her own creativity.

Nel 1975 Betsey Johnson ha una bimba, Lulu, che partorisce subito dopo aver presentato la sfilata per la moda bimbi e che attualmente lavora con lei nel reparto creativo.

Betsey Johnson has a daughter in 1975, her name is Lulu and she gave birth after a children’s wear collection show, now Lulu works with her in the creative department.

Apre i suoi negozi nelle vie che sarebbero poi diventate un punto di riferimento nella moda in U.S.A come nel cuore di Soho e in Melrose Avenue a Los Angeles e dalla fine degli anni ‘90 le sue creazioni sono reperibili anche in Europa e Asia.

She opened her stores in places that would later become a benchmark in fashion in the U.S. like the heart of Soho and Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and her creations can be found in Europe and Asia in the late 90s.

Durante gli anni ha ricevuto molti premi tra cui nel 2002 viene inserita nella Fashion Walk of Fame e nel 2009 il National Arts Club le conferisce la Medaglia d’onore alla Carriera nel campo della Moda.

She has been awarded many times over the years, she was inducted into the Fashion Walk of Fame in 2002 and the National Arts Club awarded her the 2009 Medal of Honor for Lifetime Achievement in Fashion.

Nel 2002 dopo esserle stato diagnosticato un cancro si è distinta per le sue iniziative benefiche volte alla ricerca e alla cura di questa malattia.

After having been diagnosed with cancer in 2002 she has distinguished herself in charitable initiatives for research and care.
