Kimono significa letteralmente “cosa che si indossa” da “ki” “indossare” e “mono” “cosa”. In passato per kimono si intendeva qualsiasi abito, oggi si chiama kimono solo il capo tradizionale in contrapposizione all’abito occidentale, lo yōfuku.

Kimono literally means “thing to wear” from “ki” which means “wear” and “mono” “thing”. In the past kimono were any article of clothing, then today kimono is the traditional item, as opposed to Western dress, the yōfuku.
