Non Solo Kawaii

Dopo tre settimane dall’uscita nelle sale italiane, finalmente sono andata a vedere Coraline e la Porta Magica 3D e a provare per la prima volta l’esperienza dei film 3D.
La sala era gremita di bimbi anche se Coraline non è un film di animazione propriamente adatto a loro, anzi a tratti direi che è stato angosciante, sicuramente tenebroso e dal sapore gotico kawaii. I piccoli in sala hanno assistito in silenzio alla proiezione e non si sono sentite risate, ma solo verso il finale il pianto di un bimbo.
Di certo ha uno stampo maturo, infatti a me e agli adulti in sala è piaciuto molto.

After three weeks of the release in Italy, finally i watched Coraline 3D and it was the first time that i watched a 3D movie.
The cinema was crowded with children even if Coraline isn’t a film suitable for them, on the contrary sometimes it was scary, surely dark and gothic kawaii. Children watched it silently and i couldn’t hear any laugh, but in the end a child cryed.
It is mature, in fact adults, who were in cinema, liked it very much.

Il film è tratto dal romanzo “Coraline” del 2002 scritto da Neil Gaiman ed illustrato da Dave McKean che si è guadagnato il premio Hugo per il miglior romanzo breve nel 2003. In Italia è stato edito da Mondadori nel 2004.

The movie is based on Neil Gaiman’s 2002 novella Coraline, illustrated by Dave McKean, which won Hugo Awards for Best Novella for the year 2003. In Italy it was published by Mondadori in 2004.

Coraline e la porta magica ha il fascino tutto particolare non solo conferito dal bravissimo Henry Selick, già regista del cult “Nightmare Before Christmas”, ma anche perchè realizzato con la tecnica dello stop-motion attraverso il movimento frame by frame dei modellini in 3D che danno concretezza e spessore a tutte le animazioni. In rete si possono trovare moltissime immagini di backstage che lasciano a bocca aperta e che vi consiglio di guardare sul sito ufficiale (sono nella sezione “The Well”).

The charm of Coraline comes from Henry Selick, amazing director of the cult “Nightmare Before Christmas”, but also from stop-motion technique, where 3D models were animated frame by frame, this technique gave concreteness and depth to animation. There are a lot of images of backstage online, which are astonishing and i recommend you to watch in the official website (in the section “The Well”).

Coraline e la porta magica è la storia di una ragazzina che si trasferisce in una nuova città e soprattutto in una immensa casa piena di angoli misteriosi che per lei sono una vera attrattiva, impossibile non visitarli! In una stanza scopre la sagoma di una piccola porticina nascosta dietro la carta da parati e la chiave che la aprirà ha uno strano decoro: un bottone.
Attraversando il tunnel dietro la porta raggiunge una dimensione parallela in cui tutte le persone che conosce sono come lei vorrebbe: la mamma si prende cura della casa e ha tempo per lei, il papà è un artista eclettico che cura il giardino che Coraline ama tanto, il nuovo amico Wybie non è più un chiacchierone, i vicini da strambi vengono elevati ad abilissimi artisti. Ma tutti loro hanno dei bottoni cuciti sugli occhi, eccetto il gatto nero, unico elemento di raccordo con il mondo “reale” e che la saprà consigliare, perchè nulla è come sembra.

Coraline is a story about a little girl that moves in another city and in a huge house full of misterious corners which are really irresistible for her. In a room she finds the outline of a little door hidden behind wallpaper and the key, that opens it, has a strange decoration: a button.
Going under the tunnel behind that door, she reaches a parallel dimension where everybody is how she would like to be: her mother takes care of the house and has time for her, her dad is an eclectic artist who takes care of the garden which Coraline loves, her new friend Wybie is a chatterbox no more, her neighbours aren’t freak but skilful artists. But everybody has buttons sewed on their eyes, except the black cat which is the only element that connects her with “real” world and that will advise her, because nothing is as it seems.

L’Altra Madre di Coraline / Coraline’s Other Mother

Un film realizzato magistralmente, vi basti pensare che per terminarlo ci sono voluti quasi tre anni, se amate le atmosfere gotiche, misteriose e stregate rimarrete sicuramente affascinati, trasportati da un momento all’altro dal sogno (il giardino completamente fiorito, il circo di Mr Bobinsky, lo spettacolo teatrale di Miss Forcible e Miss Spink che hanno come spettatori 248 Scottish Terrier neri) all’incubo (ma qui non svelo nulla).
L’esperienza in 3D non è stata del tutto positiva per me, perchè gli occhiali mi hanno dato un po’ di fastidio agli occhi e le scene in cui si sfruttavano a pieno le potenzialità di questa tecnica non erano moltissime.

This movie was directed masterly, it took almost three years to realize it, if you love gothic, misterious and witched atmospheres you will be surely fashinated and will get carried away from dream (the flowery garden, Mr Bobinsky circus, Miss Forcible and Miss Spink’s show which has as audience 248 black Scottish Terriers) to nightmare (but i don’t want to anticipate anything).
3D experience wasn’t completely positive for me, because glasses made my eyes hurt and there weren’t many sequences where this technique showed all its potentiality.
