‘Elegantly Indomitable’ is an exhibition at Alexi Era Gallery in Illinois that presents Yishu Wang’s and Rebecca Wulf’s works, two artists with a very different style, but complementary in some ways.

In questa mostra vengono presentati due punti di vista, due modi di rappresentare delle giovani donne, spiriti liberi, dagli sguardi limpidi e fieri, dalla bellezza sobria ed eterea, femminile e glaciale.
Lo stile morbido delle fanciulle romantiche che Yishu Wang rappresenta con curve delicate e toni pastello si contrappone alle linee nette e ai colori saturi a contrasto delle eroine futuristiche di Rebecca Wulf.
This show presents two points of view, two ways of representing young women, free spirits, with clear and proud eyes, sober and ethereal beauty, feminine and glacial.
The soft style of the romantic girls that Yishu Wang represents with gentle curves and pastel tones contrasts with the sharp lines and the saturated colors of the futuristic heroines depicted by Rebecca Wulf.

“Un antico detto in Cina dice: Quando una persona si isola dalla società tradizionale, diventa un’isola. L’isolamento consente di riflettere in modo chiaro. Qui, in America, mi ritrovo sia in senso figurato che letterale su quell’isola. [...]
Questa esplorazione mi ha portato a coniugare la figura al paesaggio come un modo per esprimere quanto un luogo possa definire un individuo. La combinazione tra figura e paesaggio esprime l’emozione del singolo individuo in realazione alle circostanze.”
“There is an old saying in China: When a person isolates from the mainstream society, they become an island. Isolation enables clear reflection. Here in America, I find myself both figuratively and literally on that island. [...]
This exploration has led me to combine the figure and landscape as a way of expressing how place can define an individual. The combination of figure and landscape expresses the emotion of the individual relating to circumstance.”
