“Flying Houses” è un progetto di Laurent Chehere, un artista francese che ha trasformato in pura poesia gli edifici di Menilmontant, povero sobborgo di Parigi crocevia di differenti culture e cosmopolita.

‘Flying Houses’ is a project by Laurent Chehere, a French artist who has turned into pure poetry the Menilmontant buildings, a poor suburb of Paris, crossroads of different cultures and cosmopolitan.

Laurent Chehere presenta una visione onirica, divertente e allo stesso tempo dark, del problema dell’impoverimento nella società moderna. Colori pastello, tende svolazzanti e cornicioni riccamente decorati si scontrano con la realtà degli emarginati, degli immigrati e dei gipsy, in un immaginario che si ispira alla vecchia Parigi e Jules Vernes, Albert Robida, Moebius, Hayao Miyazaki, Albert Lamorisse, Wim Wenders, Federico Fellini, Marcel Carné, Jean Cocteau.

Laurent Chehere has a dream, fun and at the same time dark vision of the impoverishment in modern society. Pastel colors, fluttering curtains and richly decorated cornices are in conflict with the reality of the outcasts, immigrants and Gypsies, in an imaginary inspired by the old Paris and Jules Vernes, Albert Robida, Moebius, Hayao Miyazaki, Albert Lamorisse, Wim Wenders, Federico Fellini, Marcel Carné, Jean Cocteau.

Ogni “Flying House” è un mondo a parte superdettagliato e ha una propria storia, ad esempio “Pink” è il presbiterio della chiesa St-Germain l’Auxerrois, un vecchio edificio che non esiste più, distrutto nel XIX secolo dalla ristrutturazione urbanistica del barone Haussmann, di cui Laurent Chehere ha rinvenuto una fotografia datata 1866 di Charles Marville.

Each ‘Flying House’ is a different e very detailed world and has its own history, for example ‘Pink’ is the presbytery of the church St-Germain l’Auxerrois, an old building that no longer exists, destroyed in the XIXth century by the urban restructuring of Baron Haussmann, of which Laurent Chehere found a photograph of Charles Marville of 1866.

“L’Enfer” è ispirato al mondo del circo e al famoso Cabaret The Hell in Montmartre, frequentato dagli artisti surrealisti e distrutto nel 1950, nelle pareti dell’edificio si possono trovare dei riferimenti ai famosi circhi francesi, come Bouglione e Zavatta, ai film “L’Enfer”, l’opera incompiuta di Henry George Clouzot, “Eraserhead - La mente che cancella” e “Elephant Man” di David Lynch.

‘L’Enfer’ is inspired by the circus world and the famous Cabaret The Hell in Montmartre, frequented by the Surrealists and destroyed in 1950, in the building’s walls you can see references to famous French circus, like Bouglione and Zavatta, to the movies ‘L’Enfer’, the unfinished work by Henry George Clouzot, ‘Eraserhead’ and ‘Elephant Man’ by David Lynch.
