Non Solo Kawaii

Come nelle più classiche delle tradizioni natalizie quest’anno è arrivato nelle sale un nuovo remake di “A Christmas Carol” con la partecipazione di Jim Carrey.
Molti film e cortometraggi animati si sono ispirati al libro di Charles Dickens (1812-1870) e ci hanno accompagnato nella nostra vita e soprattutto nei nostri Natali.
“Il Canto di Natale” è stato scritto nel 1843 e fa parte della raccolta di racconti “Libri di Natale”, scritto da Dickens per rappresentare l’Inghilterra di quel tempo, nella sua povertà e nelle ipocrisie del governo che di fatto non faceva molto per risolvere la situazione.

As in most classic traditions of Christmas this year has arrived in the cinemas a new remake of “A Christmas Carol” with the participation of Jim Carrey.
Many films and animated shorts were inspired by the book written by Charles Dickens (1812-1870) and accompanied us in our lives and especially in our Christmases.
“A Christmas Carol” was written in 1843 and is a story of the collection “The Christmas Books” in which Dickens wanted to show the England of that time, where there was poverty and government was hypocritical to face that problem

Trama / Plot

La trama, anche se tutti la conosciamo, parla di Ebenezer Scrooge, arido e tirchio benestante, che odia il Natale e non spende un penny neanche per se stesso.
La notte prima di Natale viene a trovarlo il fantasma del vecchio amico e socio Marley, ormai anima persa per la sua avidità, che gli preannuncia la visita di 3 fantasmi.
Il primo è il fantasma del Natale passato, che lo poterà indietro nella sua infanzia, nei suoi Natali felici e soprattutto nel suo amore, ormai perso, per una ragazza (figlia del suo datore di lavoro).
Il secondo è il fantasma del Natale presente che gli mostrerà come le persone seppur povere si ritrovino felicemente insieme.
Il terzo è il fantasma del Natale futuro che gli farà vedere la sua tomba e le risate delle persone nel ricordarlo come avido e meschino, ma soprattutto gli mostrerà la tomba di Tiny Tim, figlio del suo contabile, morto per una malattia curabile solo se i genitori avessero avuto i soldi per farlo.
La redenzione e il pentimento salvano Tiny Tim e fanno ricordare Scrooge come l’uomo più generoso e altruista di tutti.

The plot, although we all know, is about Ebenezer Scrooge, miserly and wealthy stingy, who hates Christmas and does not spend even a penny for himself.
The night before Christmas the ghost of his old friend and business partner Marley, now lost soul for his greed, visits him to foretell the visit of 3 ghosts.
The first is the Ghost of Christmas Past, that brings back Ebenezer to his childhood, to his happy Christmas and especially to his love, now lost, for a girl (daughter of his employer).
The second is the Ghost of Christmas Present that shows him how even poor people are happy together.
The third is the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come that shows to Ebenezer his grave and the laughter of people remembering how greedy and mean he was, but also the grave of Tiny Tim, the son of her accountant, died of a disease curable only if parents had had the money to do so.
The redemption and repentance save Tiny Tim and Scrooge who will be remembered as the man most generous and unselfish of all.

Vorrei ricordare i film che ho visto tratti dal romanzo di Charles Dickens e che sono rimasti nella mia mente.
I recall the movies that I saw inspired by the novel written by Charles Dickens.

Il primo che mi viene in mente è sicuramente il film realizzato dalla Disney nel 1983 e che mi ha, quindi, accompagnato per tutta l’infanzia ed è intitolato “Canto di Natale di Topolino”.
Nel film Scrooge è interpretato da Zio Paperone e il povero contabile, Bob Cratchit, è interpretato da Topolino.
Piccola curiosità: in lingua originale Zio Paperone è Scrooge McDuck.
I personaggi sono molto indovinati come Paperino (nipote Fred), Gambadilegno (Natale futuro), Grillo Parlante (Natale passato), però ammetto che vedere Pippo come ex socio dannato un pò fa sorridere.
Il film è molto fedele al racconto tranne nel finale dove Scrooge si presenta con una borsa piena di giocattoli a casa dei Cratchit, cosa che non avviene nel libro.
Non so voi ma io continuo a vederlo ogni anno e ne rimango sempre affascinato!

The first that i remember is surely the film made by Disney in 1983 and that accompanied throughout my childhood, “Mickey’s Christmas Carol”.
In the movie Scrooge is played by Scrooge McDuck and poor accountant, Bob Cratchit is played by Mickey Mouse.
The characters are very right as Donald Duck (nephew Fred), Peg Leg Pete (Christmas Yet to Come), Jiminy Cricket (Christmas Past), but I admit that seeing Goofy as a damned partner it’s quite funny.
The film is very faithful to the story except in the final, where Scrooge brings a bag full of toys to the Cratchit house, which does not happen in the book.
I do not know your opinion but I still watch this movie every year and I am always fascinated!

Il secondo è stato realizzato nel 1988 ed è “S.O.S Fantasmi” e interpretato da Bill Murray.
Molto diverso dal libro anche perchè letto con una chiave molto moderna. In questo film il protagonista è il capo di un canale televisivo che, per realizzare successo e ascolti la notte di Natale, vuole trasmettere proprio un musical intitolato “A Christmas Carol”.
Sicuramente molto divertente anche data la bravura di Bill Murray e pieno di situazioni tragicomiche.
Nel film non è presente la famiglia Cratchit e la storia triste di Tiny Tim, ma è presente il fratello di Francis Xavier Cross (Bill Murray) che, nonostante tutto, lo ama incodizionatamente.
Direi che un riferimento al povero contabile Bob Cratchit si trova nel dipendente licenziato proprio il giorno di Natale che si presenta nell’ufficio del boss con un fucile.
Come potete capire il film è soltanto ispirato al libro, ma è molto bello e fatto molto bene, secondo me.

The second was produced in 1988 and is “Scrooged” with Bill Murray.
It’s very different from the book also because is set in these days. In this film the protagonist is the head of a television channel that, to be successful and to have peak time in the Christmas day, wants to broadcast a musical called “A Christmas Carol”.
It’s very funny also thanks to Bill Murray and it’s full of tragicomic situations.
In the film there aren’t the Cratchit family and the sad story of Tiny Tim, but this is the brother of Francis Xavier Cross (Bill Murray) who, despite everything, loves him unconditionally.
I would say that a reference to the poor accountant Bob Cratchit is in a employee who was fired on Christmas Day that occurs in the office of the boss with a gun.
As you can understand the movie is only inspired by the book, but it is nice and very well done, in my opinion.

Il terzo è stato realizzato nel 2004 ed è “Natale in casa Deejay”. Primo film in Italia ad essere realizzato da una emittente radiofonica e ha come protagonisti, neanche a dirlo, i deejay della radio.
Il film vede il cavaliere di Molfetta (Linus), padrone dell’emittente “tubo Deejay”, licenziare tre dipendenti (il trio medusa) rei di voler trasmettere le canzoni di Natale per le persone della città. Come la tradizione del libro vuole anche il povero Linus riceverà la visita di tre fantasmi interpretati da Digei Angelo, Platinette e Alessio Bertallot. Forse potremmo dire dei veri fantasmi!

The third was made in 2004 and is “Christmas at Deejay Home”. The first film in Italy to be realized by a radio station and has as protagonists the deejays of the radio.
The film shows the Knight of Molfetta (Linus), the owner of “tubo Deejay”, that fires three employees (Trio Medusa) guilty of wanting to broadcast Christmas songs for the people of the city. As in the tradition of the book also the poor Linus is payed a visit by three ghosts played by Digei Angelo, Platinette and Alessio Bertallot. Perhaps we could say that they are real ghosts!

Il quarto film è di recente realizzazione (2009) dalla Disney e vede come regista Robert Zemeckis (Ritorno al futuro). Da sottolineare le partecipazioni nel doppiaggio originale dove spicca la voce di Jim Carrey, ma non solo. I doppiatori americani sono:

The fourth film is recently made (2009) by Disney and the director is Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future). I have to highlight Jim Carrey as actor and voice of Ebenezer Scrooge. The original voices are:

Realizzato con la tecnica “Capture motion” utilizzata anche per i film “Polar Express” e “La leggenda di Beowulf”, il film rispecchia moltissimo il racconto e richiama, in molte scene, il vero significato del racconto.
La cosa più sorprendente è il taglio dato al film, molto indicato per i più grandi anzichè per i più piccoli. Questa mia teoria è valorizzata dai commenti dei bambini in sala “Ma quando finisce?”, frase che dice tutto. Alcune scene infatti sono molto macabre e facevano quasi paura. Le linee sono molto marcate e dure, lontano anni luce dal cortometraggio con Topolino & C.
Mi è piaciuta la soluzione di usare non solo le voci degli attori di Hollywood ma anche i visi.
Il giudizio finale è: molto bello e veramente ben realizzato.

Made with “motion capture”, used also for the film “Polar Express” and “Beowulf”, the film reflects very much the original story and draws in many scenes, the true meaning of the story.
The most surprising thing is that this film is very suitable for adults rather than children. I say that because of the comments of the children in the cinema like “When does it end?”, a significant sentence. Some scenes are very gruesome and almost scary. The characters are very pronounced and hard, far away from the short film featuring Mickey & C.
I liked the solution to use the voices and the faces of Hollywood actors.
The final opinion is: very beautiful and very well made!

• “Scrooge” prodotto nel 1922 in Inghilterra. Il regista è George Wynn.
• “Scrooge” creato nel 1923 in Inghilterra ha come regista Edwin Greenwood. Film della durata di soli 25 minuti e come i precedenti in bianco e nero.
• “Scrooge” anche questo prodotto in Inghilterra nel 1928, vede dietro la macchina da presa il regista Hugh Croise. Della durata di soli 9 minuti e il primo film dedicato a Scrooge con l’audio.

• “Scrooge” realizzato in Canada nel 1978 per la TV dal regista John Blanchard.
• Tanti adattamenti più leggeri come: “A Flintstones Christmas Carol” (1994) con la famiglia preistorica più famosa, “Disney’s 101 Dalmatians: The Series - Christmas Cruella” (1997) con la carica dei 101 e Crudelia nei panni di Scrooge, “A Sesame Street Christmas Carol” (2006) con i dolcissimi personaggi di Sesame Street, “A Christmas Carol” (2008) nel mondo di Barbie.
