Non Solo Kawaii

Essere kawaii non significa esserlo solo fuori, ma anche dentro.
Alcuni artisti hanno preso alla lettera questo concetto e hanno creato delle opere e dei toys che sono kawaii sia esteriormente che “internamente”, mettendo a nudo le loro viscere e dando vita ai loro organi. E ora esploriamo insieme il corpo umano in modo kawaii.

Being kawaii means be it outside and also inside.
Some artists have taken this concept literally and have designed works and toys that are both kawaii outside and “internally”, showing their visceras and giving life to their organs. And now, we will explore together the human body in a kawaii way.

• DRx / Hello Kitty

Dr. Romanelli (per gli amici DRx) è il marchio d’abbigliamento americano di Darren Romanelli caratterizzato dallo stile vintage e dai richiami al mondo della chimica e della medicina. Insieme a Sanrio e a Medicom Toy, famose aziende giapponesi, ha realizzato la serie di vinyl DRx / Hello Kitty: quattro Hello Kitty di cui due in versione infermiera e due in versione “pazienti”. Dr. Romanelli deve essersi scordato di richiudere la povera Kitty malata, ma forse l’ha fatto volutamente per mostrare a tutti che Hello Kitty è kawaii sia dentro che fuori: i suoi organi sono colorati e hanno anche loro un fiocchetto!

Dr. Romanelli (DRX) is the American brand of clothing by Darren Romanelli characterized by its vintage style and the references to the world of chemistry and medicine. Along with Sanrio and Medicom Toy, famous Japanese companies, has created a series of vinyl DRX / Hello Kitty: four Hello Kitty including two versions as nurse and two versions as patients. Dr. Romanelli should have forgotten to stitch up the sick poor Kitty, but maybe he did it deliberately to show everyone that Hello Kitty is kawaii inside and outside: the organs are colored and they also have a bow!

• Jason Freeny

Jason Freeny è l’illustratore americano che ha “dissezionato” celebri personaggi della vinyl art come Dunny di Kidrobot (Visible Vinyl) e Quee di Toy2r (Qee Anatomy), icone cartoon come Domo di NHK.TYO (Anatomy Domo Kun) e Sackboy di Sony (De-Constructing Sackboy), e l’immancabile classico ma sempre attuale Omino di Lego (Micro Schematic). Ha “aperto in due” anche dei simboli che ricorrono nella gioventù di ogni bambino americano come il palloncino a forma di cane (Pneumatic Anatomica), la caramella orsetto (Anatomie Gummi Bär) e l’omino di marzapane (Gingerbread Man Dissected). Le sue illustrazioni ricordano i cartelloni scientifici con l’indicazione e la nomenclatura di ogni parte del corpo. Questi personaggi hanno dentro di sè organi simili a quelli umani, molto realistici e tutti hanno un cuore. Dopo aver visto questi disegni, con che coraggio mangeremo una caramella orsetto?

Jason Freeny is the American illustrator who has “dissected” famous characters of the vinyl art like Kidrobot Dunny (Visible Vinyl) and Quee by Toy2R (Qee Anatomy), as cartoon icons like Domo by NHK.TYO (Anatomy Domo Kun) and Sackboy by Sony (De-Constructing Sackboy), and the classic but always modern Omino by Lego (Micro Schematic). He das “divided in two” symbols of every American child as the balloon dog-shaped (Pneumatic Anatomica), the gummi bear (Anatomie Gummi Bär) and the little Gingerbread Man (Dissected Gingerbread Man). His illustrations recall the scientific posters with indications and nomenclatures of each body part. These characters have within themseves organs similar to humans, very realistic and all of them have a heart. After seeing these pictures, how could we eat that sweet gummi bear?

• Gnagno and the Organs

Gnagno è il peluche italiano a forma di orsetto creato da Punk Production. Ma Gnagno non è un orsetto qualunque! Se si apre la zip che ha al posto della bocca è possibile fare la conoscenza dei suoi amici organi: il cervello rosa Brian Zero, il cuore rosso Art Taak, l’intestino rosa Testy Bezzy, il fegato viola Jack Daniel e i polmoni azzurri Paul Moony. Gnagno può essere azzurro, rosa o nero.

Gnagno is the Italian soft toy shaped like a teddy bear made by Punk Production. But Gnagno is not a ordinary teddy bear! If you open the zip through mouth it’s possible to find his friends organs: the pink brain Brian Zero, the red heart Art Taak, the pink intestine Testy Bezzy, the purple liver Jack Daniel and the blue lungs Paul Moony. Gnagno can be blue, pink or black.

• I Heart Guts

I Heart Guts sono 12 organi e 14 ghiandole felici e colorati.
Questi simpatici character, nati come peluche, visto il successo ottenuto dal 2005, sono stati prodotti anche in edizioni limitate e declinati su t-shirt, adesivi e spillette. Per ogni organo c’è una divertente ma educativa spiegazione sulle sue caratteristiche e sul funzionamento.
“Ci piace pensare che i Guts sono ciò che si potrebbe trovare dentro una Hello Kitty dissezionata”, così vengono descritti dal loro creatore.

I Heart Guts are 12 organs and 14 happy and colorful glands.
These cute characters, born as plush, have been successful since 2005, and they were also produced in limited editions, on t-shirts, stickers and pins. For every organ there is a funny but educational explanation of its features and functioning.
“We like to think of the Guts as what you might find inside a dissected Hello Kitty”, this is the description of the creator.

• Junko Mizuno

Junko Mizuno è un’illustratrice giapponese che ha fatto del suo stile gothic kawaii il suo punto di forza.
Attraverso una serie di cinque illustrazioni ha saputo rappresentare in modo kawaii l’anatomia degli animali: un cane azzurro, un gatto rosso, un coniglio rosa, un orso viola e un’ape gialla, i cui corpi sono stati sezionati per mostrare come sono fatti dentro mentre stanno facendo i loro bisognini.
Ma soprattutto attraverso i toys ci mostra che i suoi personaggi hanno molto cervello.

Junko Mizuno is Japanese illustrator with a unique gothic kawaii style.
She made a series of five illustrations to represent in a kawaii way the anatomy of animals: a blue dog, a red cat, a pink rabbit, a purple bear and a yellow bee, whose bodies were dissected to show how they are made inside while they are making cute pooh.
But above all it’s through her toys that she shows us that her characters are brainy.

• Chen Fei

Chen Fei è un’artista cinese che i cui soggetti sono delle creature grottesche e sproporzionate, che presentano alcune caratteristiche tipiche dei classici kawaii, il colorito roseo, la figura cicciottella, le labbra piene e gli arti piccoli, ma che kawaii non possono certo definirsi.
Questi personaggi grondano di sangue, bevono sangue, si smontano e si aprono come custodie rivelando un interno vivo fatto di sangue e gioielli brillanti e preziosi, solo in parte contaminati dai fluidi corporei.

Chen Fei is a Chinese artist whose subjects are grotesque and disproportionate creatures, which have some features typical of classic kawaii, the pinkish complexion, the plump figure, the full lips and the small limbs, but that it’s difficult to say that they are kawaii.
These characters drip with blood, drink blood, disassemble themselves revealing their living entrails made of blood, bright and precious jewels, only partly contaminated by body fluids.
