Il numero di dicembre 2009 di Vogue Russia mostra come l’astrologia possa essere raffinata, pubblicando un servizio fotografico realizzato da Matt Irwin che rivisita la tradizionale rappresentazione dei segni zodiacali occidentali, dirigendo le pose della bellissima modella Anastasija Kondratjeva, che è del segno del Cancro.

Come prima illustrazione da presentarvi abbiamo scelto la bravissima Juri Ueda, che chi ci segue conoscerà per l’intervista kawaii che ci ha rilasciato qualche mese fa.
Per iniziare in bellezza il 2010, anno della Tigre secondo il calendario cinese, ha realizzato uno dei suoi dolcissimi e delicati acquerelli intitolato “Teamstripes” , che nel suo profilo di Flickr dedica ai suoi amici e ai suoi fans augurando un felice 2010.

To introduce this category we have chosen an illustration of the talented Juri Ueda, that who follows us will knows her thanks to the kawaii interview that she granted few months ago.
For a delightful 2010, the year of Tiger according to Chinese calendar, she created one of her sweet and delicate watercolors titled “Teamstripes”, which she dedicated to her friends and fans in her Flickr profile whishing a happy 2010.

Immancabile nella nostra carrellata Junko Mizuno di cui abbiamo spesso parlato nei nostri articoli e che rispecchia a pieno il spirito non solo kawaii.
Anche lei spesso di è cimentata nell’illustrazione dello zodiaco ed ecco qui un assaggio dei suoi lavori.

Immedium, la casa editrice statunitense che ha fatto del kawaii la sua bandiera, come abbiamo già parlato nei nostri precedenti articoli, dal 2006 ha iniziato a presentare dei simpatici librettini dedicati all’anno nuovo secondo il calendario cinese. Qui trovate alcune immagini di “The Year of OX” (”L’anno del Bue”) del 2009.

Immedium, the American publisher, who is also characterized by its kawaii books, which we have already shown in our previous articles, has proposed some nice books since 2006 dedicated to the new year according to the Chinese calendar. Diem Chau è una giovane e talentuosa artista vietnamita, che ha spesso realizzato delle piccole sculture usando come materia prima i pastelli a cera. Il risultato è davvero sorprendente e dimostra una grandissima tecnica e manualità, oltre che molta pazienza! Tra le varie mini-sculture ha realizzato anche una serie sullo zodiaco cinese.

Diem Chau is a young and talented Vietnamese artist who often creates small sculptures using crayons. The result is surprising and shows a great technical and manual skills, as well as a lot of patience! Among her many mini-sculptures she also made a Chinese zodiac series.

• Dolls & Toys

Anche Barbie si è cimentata nel tema e nel sito di riferimento per tutti i collezionisti di questa bambola, Barbie Collector, è raccolta anche la serie sullo zodiaco occidentale uscita nel 2004, dove per ogni segno troviamo una Barbie Bianca e una Nera con lo stesso vestito.
L’idea è carina, ma forse ci saremmo aspettate dei vestiti più scenografici per presentare questo tema che lascia davvero grande spazio all’immaginazione!

Even Barbie used this subject and on the favorite site of the collectors of this doll, Barbie Collector, there is also a Western zodiac series released in 2004, where there are a white doll and a black one dressed in the same way for every sign.
The idea is nice, but perhaps we could have expected more spectacular clothes to present this theme which can be interpreted in many creative ways!

Dal 2007 anche HP festeggia il nuovo anno secondo il calendario cinese, presentando dei simpatici paper toy da scaricare e montare. Finora troviamo il drago, il topo, il maiale e la tigre.

HP has celebrated the new year according to the Chinese calendar since 2007, presenting some nice paper toys to download and assemble. Until now there are dragon, rat, pig and tiger.

Fruit Basket (detto Furuba) è uno shōjo manga realizzato da Natsuki Takaya e pubblicato da Hakusensha. La storia di questo manga ruota attorno alla mitologia buddista.
Ci sono moltissime versioni diverse di questa storia ma si narra che Buddha sentendo avvicinarsi la sua fine terrena, organizzò un banchetto e chiamò a raccolta tutti gli animali della terra, ma solo 12 lo raggiunsero. Primo arrivò il furbo topo che viaggiò sulla schiena del docile bue e all’avvicinarsi della meta saltò giù e lo battè sul tempo, seguirono poi la coraggiosa tigre, il pacifico coniglio, il drago seguito subito da suo fratello minore il serpente, l’atletico cavallo, l’elegante pecora, la furba scimmia, il variopinto gallo, il fedele cane e infine il maiale.
Il gatto non riuscì a raggiungere il banchetto perchè il topo lo ingannò è gli disse che la festa si sarebbe tenuta il giorno dopo.
A questo è dovuta la maledizione che colpisce alcuni mebri della famiglia Soma, che si trasformano in un animale dello zodiaco cinese se vengono abbracciati da una persona di sesso opposto. A stravolgere le loro vite, costellate di solitudine ed emarginazione, arriva la dolce e ingenua Toru Honda.
Noi l’abbiamo letto e lo consigliamo perchè è davvero appassionante, curato sotto ogni aspetto e kawaii.

Fruit Basket (as known as Furuba) is a shōjo manga series created by Natsuki Takaya and published by Hakusensha. The story of this manga is inspired by the Buddhist mythology.
There are many different versions of this story, but it is said that Buddha before his departure from this earth, made a banquet and invited all the animals, but only 12 of them reached him. First came the clever rat who traveled on the back of the tame ox and when they had almost arrived, the rat jumped and beat the ox, then later on the courageous tiger, the peaceful rabbit, the dragon immediately followed by his younger brother the snake, the athletic horse, the elegant sheep, the clever monkey, the colorful rooster, the faithful dog, and finally the pig.
The cat could not reach the banquet because the rat tricked him, telling that the party would be held the next day.
The Soma family curse of this legend makes some of the family members turn into Chinese zodiac animals if they are embraced by a person of the opposite sex. To disrupt their lives, filled with loneliness and marginalization, here comes the sweet and innocent Toru Honda.
We read and we recommend it because it is really absorbing, made with attention to detail and kawaii.

Anche Onitsuka Tiger, il celebre marchio giapponese di calzature e abbigliamento sportivo, per celebrare nel 2009 il suo 60° anniversario, si è ispirato alla leggenda. Lo zodiaco giapponese è infatti organizzato secondo un ciclo di 60 anni e in Giappone i sessanta sono un traguardo importante per un uomo.
Onitsuka Tiger ha trasformato la leggenda, secondo la quale l’imperatore Giada bandì una gara per decidere quali animali avessero fatto parte del calendario, nella Zodiac Race: 12 animali dalle fattezze kawaii che si sfidano in una gara di velocità su di un circuito a forma di sneaker che rappresenta il Giappone. La sneaker-isola è stata realmente realizzata creando un modello in 3D! Qui infatti potete vedere il making off.
Per l’occasione è stata creata una collezione speciale con le illustrazioni di 2 importanti artisti: Takeshi Fukui ha realizzato il bue, il topo e la tigre per la primavera/estate 2009 e il cavallo, la scimmia e la pecora per l’autunno inverno 2009, mentre Erik Kriek ha creato il serpente, il dragone e il coniglio per la primavera/estate 2009.

Even Onitsuka Tiger, the famous Japanese brand of shoes and sportswear, was inspired by legend to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2009. In fact the Japanese zodiac is a cycle of 60 years and sixty years is a significant achievement for a Japanese man.
Onitsuka Tiger has revisited the legend which tells the story of the Jade Emperor who arranged a race to decide the animals of the calendar, the Zodiac Race: 12 kawaii animals in a speed racer challenge on a sneaker shaped racetrack which represents Japan. The sneaker-island was created for real in 3D! Here you can watch the making off.
On this occasion they created a special collection illustrated by two important artists: Takeshi Fukui made the ox, the rat and the tiger for spring/summer 2009 and the horse, the monkey and the sheep for autumn/winter 2009, while Erik Kriek created the snake, the dragon, and the rabbit for Spring/Summer 2009.
