Non Solo Kawaii

Il mio preferito super kawaii!!! / This is my favourite, really kawaii!!!

Florentijn Hofman è un artista olandese che vi conquisterà per il suo incredibile genio creativo.
Difficile farlo rientrare in una categoria perchè la cosa che soprende è la vastissima scelta di materiali che usa e l’eterogeneità delle sue opere, Hofman viene spinto solo dalla sua irrefrenabile fantasia e dalle sue idee brillanti.
Le sue opere grandiose non sono fatte per restare chiuse nei musei o in una stanza borghese, ma nascono per essere vissute in strada tra la gente e con la gente.

Florentijn Hofman is a dutch artist who will conquer you thanks to his incredible creative genius.
It’s difficult to categorize him because he uses a lot of different materials and many disparate subjects. Hofman is pushed by his unstoppable fantasy and by his brilliant ideas.
His pieces of work are not made for staying in museums or in a bourgeois house, but they have to be lived in streets among people and with people.

Immaginate un episodio di “Sesame Street” realizzato da Gordon Matta-Clark in collaborazione con Jim Henson e potreste iniziare a comprendere le performance di semi-collaborazione con le comunità locali che sono il punto focale nei lavori di Hofman. [...]
Il mondo è un gigantesco parco giochi dove lui può scegliere il punto o la materia in cui esporre la sua installazione.

Imagine an episode of Sesame Street made by Gordon Matta-Clark in collaboration with Jim Henson and you might begin to understand the semi-collaborative performances with local communities that are central to Hofman’s work. [...]
The world is a huge playground and he can choose just about any spot or material in which to dispaly his installations.

Eppure una galleria è riuscita a catturare, a fatica, le sue mastodontiche opere: alla Galerie West (a Den Haag in Olanda) dal 13 giugno 2009 al 4 luglio 2009 è possibile ammirare “Dushi” dei peluches giganteschi e kawaii che invadono le stanze facendogli acquistare una nuova funzione ed ispirando sentimenti inaspettati.

But a gallery succeeded to catch his mastodontic works with effort: from 13th June 2009 to 4th July 2009 it’s possible to visit Galerie West (in Den Haag,  Netherlands) to see “Dushi“, exhibition of huge kawaii plushies which invade rooms and get new functions and push poople to feel unexpected emotions.

Per Hofman è molto importante l’interazione con il pubblico, un riscontro con i fruitori dell’opera:

Il lavoro di Hofman è conosciuto per far integrare, affascinare e interagire l’installazione con lo spazio pubblico. Ovviamente passa con grande gioia dall’arte spettacolare (pubblica) al dominio della scultura (solo per menzionare uno dei media che utilizza) ed ha il grande desiderio di stupire e rendere la vita un po’ più divertente.

The work of Hofman is known for integrating, intriguing and interactive installations into public space.
Obviously he changes with great joy between performative (public) art and the domain of the sculpture (only to mention few of his used media) and has a strong wish to amaze and making life a little much more fun.

♥ 2007, Paperella di Gomma , 26 x 20 x 32 metri, location: fiume Loira, Francia

La Paperella di Gomma non conosce frontiere, non discrimina le persone e non ha connotazioni politiche. L’amichevole Paperella galleggiante ha proprietà curative: può attenuare e mostrare le tensioni del mondo. La paperella è morbida, amichevole e adatta ad ogni età!

♥ 2007, Rubber Duck, 26 x 20 x 32 meters, location: river the Loire, France

The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!

♥ 2006, Signpost, 3 x 8 x 6 x 5 metri, location: Schiermonnikoog

Per il cinquantesimo anniversario del Festival Internazionale della Musica da Camera di Schiermonnikoog, ho realizzato dei grandi pianoforti trasportati sulla costa. In riferimento a un carico bloccato e alle balene spiaggiate. Per recuperarli o salvarli.

For the fifth anniversary of the Schiermonnikoog International Chamber Music Festival, I came up with a concept of grand pianos washed upon the shore. The refer to stranded cargo and ditto whales. To be salvaged or saved.

♥ 2005, Lo Spettacolo della Grandiosa Conservazione, 140 x 70 metri, location: Lago Krabbeplas, Vlaardingen

Mi è stato chiesto portare all’attenzione della gente le qualità molto speciali ma senza grande visibilità del lago Krabbenplas, cercando di evidenziarne lo stato di conservazione. Ho ideato un evento in cui degli steward si muovevano al centro dei fari e i visitatori potevano osservare il paesaggio da una speciale prospettiva dall’alto.

♥ 2005, The Great Conservancy Show, 140 x 70 meters, location: Krabbeplas Lake, Vlaardingen

I was asked to bring the very special, but underexposed qualities of Krabbenplas Lake under people’s attention, focussing on conservancy side. I came up with an event in which the stewards would be in full spotlight and in which the visitor would experience a special perspective upon the landscape.

♥ 2004 - 2006, Beukelsblue, 115 x 15 metri, location: Beukelsdijk 21- 39, Rotterdam
Ad un palazzo degradato di Rotterdam ha applicato uno strato di vernice blu, rendendolo l’edificio più fotografato della città. A simboleggiare che basta poco per attirare l’attenzione delle persone e forse anche che a causa dei micro-flussi migratori le abitazioni disabitate diventano come delle case delle bambole.
♥ 2004 - 2006, Beukelsblue, 115 x 15 meters, location: Beukelsdijk 21- 39, Rotterdam
He has the idea to paint with blue a degradate building in Rotterdam, which has become the most photographed building in the city. To symbolize that It doesn’t take much to draw people’s attention and maybe that deserted blocks of houses look like toy houses because of demographic processes like city migrations

♥ 2004, Topo Muschiato, 31,3 x 8 x 12 metri, location: Nieuwerkerk aan den Ijssel
Questa installazione serve per mostrare quanto grande sia in Olanda il problema dei topi muschiati, che con le loro gallerie provocano smottamenti e crolli nelle dighe.
Questo problema è soprattutto sentito a Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, dove il topo muschiato è diventato un vero “ricercato”
♥ 2004, Musk Rat, 31,3 x 8 x 12 meters, location: Nieuwerkerk aan den Ijssel
This installation shows how significant is the problem of musk rats in Holland, which dig into waterworks and dykes and cause landslides and collapses.
This problem is very huge in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, where musk rats is “most wanted” animal.

♥ 2003, Strada Gialla, 950 x 4,5 metri, location: Overschiesestraat in Schiedam, Paesi Bassi

La città di Schiedam è stata la più povera dei Paesi Bassi e continua ad essere una delle più povere. Questa strada dovrebbe diventare una nuova arteria che conduce verso il centro. Aspettando questo evento, Schiedam ha la sua Strada di Mattoni Gialli, che - secondo la leggenda - porta gloria e fortuna.

♥ 2003, Yellow Street, 950 x 4,5 meters, location: Overschiesestraat in Schiedam, The Netherlands

The city of Schiedam has been the poorest city in The Netherlands for a long time and still is one of the poorest. This route is supposed to become the new entrance to the city centre. In anticipation to this fact, Schiedam now has its Yellow Brick Road, which -according to the legend- leads to glory and fortune.
