We are delighted to publish a series of articles about Lolitas.
Kawaii Team has been planning these kind of articles for months, making also some illustrations ad hoc, because we know that it’s a topic that Kawaii Girls particularly like.
We hope you enjoy and appreciate our efforts!
Here we will introduce the topic and we will talk about Sweet, Gothic, Classic, Shiro, Kuro and Erotic Lolita, while in the next article we will show Hime, Punk, Guro, Country, Wa, Qi and Pirate Lolita.

Before getting to the heart of the topic, we have to specify that we’ll show only the main kinds of Lolitas at the moment, in fact a peculiarity of this style is that there are many trends and categories, which each year increase, thanks to the creativity and the ideas of the girls who follow this fashion and to the specialized brands which always offer new inspirations.

Vota: Qual è la tua lolita preferita?

  • Storia / History

The Lolita style began to emerge in the 70s, taking some elements from the sober Victorian costumes and the rich Rococò dresses and fusing them with Otome (kawaii) style, which has its roots in the 50s and in the 60s American fashion, the Happy Days style!
The Lolita style began to be followed in the 80s, when the specialized fashion houses increase: ”Milk” (1970), “Pink House” (in the mid-70’s) “Angelic Pretty” (1979), “Baby The Stars Shine Bright” (1987).
An icon of the Lolita style is Mana, the Visual Kei singer at first of the “Malice Mizer” and of the “Moi Dix Mois” since 2001, and he founded a Lolita style clothing brand named ”Moi-même-moitié” in 1999.
We can say that he is the muse of the Gothic style and in addition to being a model, for both male and female clothes for the magazine “Gothic & Lolita Bible“, he has launched two trends that are part of the Gothic theme: “Elegant Gothic Lolita” (EGL) and “Elegant Gothic Aristocrat” (EGA).

There aren’t many rules in the Lolita style, because it is always changing and the girls who follow this style free their imagination.
The only guidelines are:
Do not uncover too much (when the weather allows that!)
The length of the skirts range from the ankle to just above the knee (except for “Erotic Lolita”)
The top of the dress and the blouse are tight, instead the skirt is full (except for the “Elegant Gothic Aristocrat” style which also includes long tight skirts)

  • Brand

Fornarina, H&M, Zara, Killah e molti altri, basta cercare!!!

In the following dossiers there are the specialized brands for the Lolita fashion, but many girls purchase their clothes from generic brands that enrich their collections with Lolita inspirations:
Fornarina, H&M, Zara, Killah and many more, just look!
It’s also possible to find very cute clothes in the vintage stores or in the chinese area of your city.
