• 1. Il tuo futuro sembrava già scritto sin dalla nascita: tuo padre è un tenore al Teatro Alla Scala di Milano e tua madre è un’attrice filodrammatica.
  Cosa ti hanno insegnato e cosa vorresti ancora imparare da loro?
  1. Your destiny seems to be marked: your father is a tenor at La Scala Theatre in Milan and your mother is an amateur dramatic actress.
  What did they teach you and what would you still learn from them?

Devo ammettere quanto mi ritenga fortunata di essere nata in una famiglia così particolare. Quella che io chiamo bonariamente una famiglia di pazzi (5 figli e tutti un po’ artisti).
Da bambina per me era naturale svegliarmi, addormentarmi con mio papà che cantava accompagnandosi con la chitarra oppure assistere alle prove o calcare il palcoscenico con mia mamma (già da quando ero nella sua pancia)… crescendo mi sono resa conto che non proprio per tutti questo era la quotidianità.
Quello che mi hanno trasmesso i miei genitori e che continuano a farlo è l’amore e la dedizione per il teatro e l’arte in generale.
Mi hanno sempre detto, citando il grande Dostoevskij: “la bellezza salverà il mondo”; che l’uomo è nato per la bellezza e che ne è quindi sempre alla ricerca… non è forse questo uno dei motivi che ci spinge ad amare l’arte?
Ma la cosa che più mi ha colpito nel vederli all’opera è che attribuiscono un significato a tutto ciò che fanno… ecco allora perchè troviamo la bellezza nell’arte anche quando questa racconta aspetti drammatici della vita: perchè nell’arte c’è tutto quello che un uomo da solo non sarebbe in grado di esprimere.
Per questo bisogna studiare e lavorare tantissimo: i miei in questo sono categorici!!!
Sono fortunata ad avere dei genitori che tuttora mi seguono e mi insegnano ad amare e a dare il massimo per fare al meglio e con tutta me stessa il mio lavoro che è anche la mia passione.

I must admit that I feel lucky to be born in a family so special. I call it funnily ”the crazy family” (we are 5 children and all a bit artists).
As a child it was natural for me to wake up, to sleep with my dad who was singing accompanying himself on guitar or to watch the rehearsals or to take the stage with my mother (since I was in her womb)… When I grew up I realized that this isn’t the normality for everybody.
My parents transmitted and are transmitting to me the love and the dedication to the theater and the art in general.
They always say to me, citing the great Dostoevsky: “The beauty will save the world”; that the man is born for the beauty and is always looking for it… Is not this one reason which pushes us to love the art?
But what impresses me most by seeing them at work is that they give a meaning to everything they do… So here is why we find beauty even when it tells the dramatic aspects of life, because the art can express everything that the man can’t express by himself.
For this reason we must study and work a lot: my parents are categorical about this!!!
I am lucky to have parents who are still following me and teaching me to love and to give my best to make the best and to give it my all, my work is also my passion.

• 2. Sin da piccola hai appreso l’arte della musica: hai studiato pianoforte e canto e ti sei diplomata al conservatorio. Ma il tuo vero amore è la danza.
  Cosa ti ha spinto verso di essa e che sensazioni e sentimenti ti fa provare?
  2. Since you was a little girl you have learned the art of the music: you studied piano and singing and you graduated at conservatory. But your true love is dance.
  What does it prompt you to dance and what are you feelings?

In casa mia è naturale che un figlio venga iscritto al conservatorio e io ovviamente ne ero solo felice, poter imitare lontanamente i miei genitori… e poi la musica ha sempre fatto parte della mia vita sin da neonata. Ho cominciato a seguire i corsi di teoria e solfeggio, canto corale e pianoforte.
Secondo me è importante per una ballerina conoscere la musica, inoltre il pianoforte è uno strumento che ho sempre amato… mi hanno sempre intrigato tutti quei tasti!!!
Ma con la danza è stato fin dall’inizio qualcosa di innato: mia mamma racconta sempre che neanche riuscivo ancora a camminare e stare bene in piedi che già ballavo, giravo per casa ballando tutto il giorno e non sapevano più come fermarmi!!!
Avevo circa 3 anni e mezzo e mi hanno portato a vedere il balletto de “Lo Schiaccianoci” al “Teatro Alla Scala” e durante la pausa mia mamma è rimasta colpita dal fatto che imitavo le ballerine e tentavo di rifare le coreografie. Il giorno dopo è andata a cercare una scuola di danza. Così ho cominciato e non ho più mollato.
Anche quando non potevo uscire con le mie amiche perchè dovevo andare a lezione, sì magari facevo fatica, ma non ho mai pensato di lasciare la danza perchè le emozioni, le sensazioni che mi dona sempre questa disciplina sono davvero uniche.
Una persona lavora anni e anni (e non smette mai) sul proprio corpo con disciplina, costanza e amore incredibili perchè dopo che aver visto un corpo o più corpi muoversi inspigabilmente esprimendo veramente tutto l’essere umano, non può più farne a meno! Almeno questo è quello che ho provato e che provo ancora quando ballo o quando assisto a degli spettacoli.
Quando sento la musica non riesco a fare a meno di muovere anche solo una parte del corpo… l’armonia, la perfezione dell’incastro del movimento col suono… è qualcosa di veramente misterioso. E totale oserei dire: in quell’istante non ho bisogno d’altro.
Per questo non posso fare a meno di ballare… è una necessità, è il modo per esprimere chi sono davvero paradossalmente anche quando la coreografia o il balletto sono lontanissime dalla mia persona.
Quando ballo mi sento esplodere, è come se la mia pelle non contenesse più la mia anima, se vogliamo chiamarla così…

In my family it is natural that a child attends the conservatory and obviously I was just happy to remotely follow in my parents’ footsteps… and then the music has always been part of my life since I was a baby. I started attending music theory, choral singing and piano courses.
In my opinion it is important for a dancer to know the music, the piano is also a instrument that I’ve always loved… I have always been intrigued by all those keys!
But the dance was something innate from the beginning: my mom always says that I could not walk and stand well upright that I had already danced, dancing around the house all day and they did not know how to stop me!!!
When I was about 3 year old, they bring me to watch ”The Nutcracker” at “La Scala Theatre” and during the break my mom was impressed by the fact that I was imitating the dancers and their choreography. The next day she began to look for a dance school. So I started and I never give up.
Even when I could not go out with my friends because I had to attend lessons, maybe it was hard, but I have never think to leave the dance because the emotions and the feelings, that this discipline always gives me, are truly unique.
A person works for years and years on his body (and never stops) with discipline, perseverance and incredible love because after seeing a body or bodies which express truly all the human being, it’s impossible to live without! At least that’s what I felt and I feel when I dance or when I watch the shows.
When I hear music I can not stop moving… the harmony, the perfection of the fusion between movement and music… It is very mysterious. I would say: in that moment I do not need anything else.
So I can not dance… is essential, a way to express who I really am, paradoxically, even when the choreography or the ballet is very far from me.
When I dance, I feel like exploding, as if my skin doesn’t contain my soul anymore…

• 3. Quali sono gli artisti (ballerini, attori o cantanti) che ammiri e dei quali vorresti calcare le orme?
  3. What are the artists (dancers, actors or singers) whom you admire?

Sono cresciuta guardando i “vecchi film” per cui i miei miti sono Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier e Ingrid Bergman.
Delle attrici attuali adoro Meryl Streep e Cate Blanchett, delle cantanti Whitney Houston mi ha stregato da quando ho 10 anni… e la grande e superba etoile Sylvie Guillem è per me un mito!! I grandi coreografi Balanchine e Forsytfe…
In generale ammiro e stimo veramente tanti artisti di cui voler calcare lontanamente le orme è veramente un sogno!
Quello a cui aspiro è di riuscire a ottenere risultati non solo nel mondo della danza ma continuare anche nel canto e nella recitazione per avvicinarsi a una completezza… poter esprimersi attraverso più linguaggi…
Sono una che lavora sodo per ottenere dei risultati e i miei mi hanno educato alla disciplina, al sacrificio, alla costanza e all’amore per l’arte.
Ecco non vorrei sembrare scontata ma sinceramente stimo tantissimo i miei genitori e calcare le loro orme professionalmente e umanamente mi renderebbe orgogliosa!

I grew up watching “old movies”, so my myths are Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier and Ingrid Bergman.
The current actresses, that I love, are Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett, among the singers Whitney Houston who has enchanted me since I was 10 year old… and the great etoile Sylvie Guillem that is a myth for me! The great choreographers Balanchine and Forsytfe…
In general I admire many artists and following in their footsteps is truly a dream!
I aspire to achive goals not only in dancing but also in singing and acting for a comprehensive approach… To express myself through many languages…
I am working hard to get results and my parents have educated me in discipline, sacrifice, perseverance and love for art.
I would not seem obvious, but frankly I respect my parents very much and following in their footsteps professionally and humanly would make me proud!

• 4. Sei una ballerina completa: hai studiato danza classico-accademica, contemporanea e modern, hip hop, locking e popping… Qual è lo stile che più ti si addice? Perchè?
  4. You’re a complete dancer: you studied academic ballet, contemporary and modern dance, hip hop, locking and popping… What is the style that suits you best? Why?

Mi sono dedicata allo studio di tanti tipi di danza (dal classico all’hip hop), innanzitutto perchè io che amo la danza amo tutte le forme di danza, inoltre perchè in ogni stile esce, o meglio predomina, una parte della mia personalità e fisicità.
In più adoro sperimentarmi e mettermi alla prova… scoprire nuove dinamiche… e ciò che apprendevo in uno stile cercavo di portarlo in un altro in modo da arricchire il mio bagaglio tecnico, fisico e artistico.
Per questo mi è difficilissimo scegliere uno stile di danza, adoro le contaminazioni, ma posso dire che il neoclassico e il contemporaneo sono gli stili che più mi si addicono perchè riescono a unire la tradizione con l’innovazione e la ricerca continua.

I have studied many types of dance (from ballet to hip hop), primarily because I love dance in all its forms, also because a part of my personality and physicality comes out, or rather predominates in each style.
In addition I love to experiment and to test myself… to discover new dynamics… and what I have learnt from a style I have tried to bring it into another so as to enhance my technical, physical and artistic skills.
For this reason to me it is very difficult to choose a style of dance, I love the contamination, but I can say that the neo-classical and contemporary styles are more suitable for me because they can combine tradition with innovation and continuous research.

• 5. Hai ballato con il primo ballerino dell’Opera di Vienna Domenico Ducato e sei arrivata in finale al concorso “Street dance fighters”: due stili completamente diversi tra di loro.
  In te coesiste sia un animo classico e sia quello più street? Ballare significa anche recitare?
  5. You danced with the lead dancer of the Vienna State Opera Domenico Ducato and you were placed sixth at the final of the “Street dance fighters”: two completely different styles.
  Have you a classic and street soul? Does dancing mean “acting”?

Quando ero al Balletto di Toscana mi capitava spesso che i miei compagni di classico non mi riconoscessero se mi vedevano alla lezione di hip hop e viceversa; questo mi ha sempre divertito perchè adoro essere ecclettica, un po’ camaleontica, stupirmi e, perchè no, stupire.
Sinceramente mi faceva piacere sentire i commenti dei miei insegnanti e compagni quando si stupivano nel vedermi in panni così diversi… era un onore per me quando mi dicevano che ero pazzesca perchè mi trasformavo… sembravo un’altra persona eppure portavo sempre qualcosa di mio.
Sì, in me coesistono l’animo classico e quello street e questo si nota anche dal mio look ogni giorno diverso, dalla varietà di musica che ascolto… perchè, l’uno elimina l’altro per forza?
Sono due culture diverse ma entrambe hanno una storia, dei significati ed entrambi hanno in comune il desiderio di esprimere l’uomo e i suoi bisogni ed emozioni, la natura, l’ignoto… ed è questo il messaggio importante anche se trasmesso con diverse modalità.

When I attended the Tuscany Ballet school, my classmates of ballet often did not recognize me if they saw me during the hip hop lesson and vice versa; this fact has always amused me because I love to be eclectic, a bit chameleonic, and I love to amaze myself and, why not?, everybody else.
Frankly I was glad to hear the comments of my teachers and my classmates, astonished to see me in so different style… It was an honor for me when they said that I was crazy because I had transformed myself… I looked like another person but there was always something that characterizes me.
Yes, the classical and street soul coexist in me and this is reflected by my different looks, the variety of music thet I listen to… why does one eliminate the other necessarily?
They are two different cultures but both have a history, meanings, and both have in common the desire to express the man and his needs and emotions, the nature, the unknown… and this is the important message even if it is communicated in different ways.

• 6. Capelli rosa e viso sorridente: il tuo look porta subito allegria in chi ti guarda e le kawaii girls lo adorano. A cosa è dovuta questa scelta di look? Ti senti “rosa” sia fuori che dentro?
  6. Pink hair and smiling face: your look brings joy and the kawaii girls love it. What is the reason of this choice? Do you feel “pink” inside and out?

Quando mi hanno chiesto se ero disposta a colorarmi i capelli ho risposto subito di sì… era un’opportunità per fare una cosa che ho sempre un po’ desiderato ma non ho mai avuto l’occasione e un po’ il coraggio (son sincera)!
Il mio personaggio è un po’ quella che io definisco “la pazza” del gruppo… è quella che vuole essere diversa da tutti, quindi farsi notare e fare un po’ quella che comanda, ma perchè in realtà è la più insicura delle tre e fa la diffidente perchè ha paura di rimanere fregata… si è costruita intorno un’armatura che la fa apparire forte e un po’ rabbiosa ogni tanto, ma solo perchè è la più sensibile… infatti si innamora di Luis ed è Sally che protegge e incoraggia sempre le sue amiche Tania e Mia trasformando tutta la sua rabbia in grinta, amore e amicizia.
Il capello rosa di per sè esprime tutto ciò a parer mio: sono dolci, irriverenti, luminosi, allegri, fluorescenti, quindi si notano subito ma nello stesso tempo delicati perchè sono rosa, un po’ sexy e un po’ infantili, freschi… insomma adoro i miei capelli rosa… e poi il rosa è il colore predominante del mondo di Hello Kitty!
Devo dire di riconoscermi tantissimo nel mio personaggio (non solo perchè voglio davvero fare la ballerina e perchè da sempre familiari e amici mi chiamano Selly)… anzi praticamente sono io in un mondo fantastico e vestita un po’ più colorata! I miei amici han detto che in scena sembrava di vedermi in casa e che l’unico momento in cui il mio personaggio si allontana da me è quando mi sveglio di soprassalto! :)
Quindi la conclusione è che mi sento “rosa” anche dentro.
Chi mi conosce sa che sono una persona solare, adoro ridere, ironica, estroversa, mi piace conoscere persone nuove, ma in realtà sono anche timida, e che senza la mia famiglia e i miei amici non saprei che fare!!!

When they asked me if I was willing to dye my hair, I immediately answered yes… It was an opportunity to do something that I always wanted a bit but I never had the occasion and the courage (I’m honest)!
My character is a bit what I call “the crazy” of the group… She is the one that wants to be different from everybody, so she wants to get herself noticed and to “command”, but because she is actually the most insecure of the three girls and she is suspicious because of the fear of being screwed over… She has built around an armour that makes her look stronger and sometimes a bit angry, but she is only the most sensitive… in fact she falls in love with Luis and Sally always protects and encourages her friends Tania and Mia, making her anger into determination, love and friendship.
The pink hair expresses this in my opinion: it is sweet, irreverent, bright, cheerful, fluorescent, and is immediately noticed but at the same time it is delicate, a little sexy and a bit childish, fresh… In short I love my pink hair … and then pink is the predominant colour in the Hello Kitty world!
I must say that I recognize me a lot in my character (not only because I really want to be a dancer and my family and friends always call me Selly)… indeed my character is practically like me in a fantasy world and dressed a bit more colourful! My friends have said that on stage it seems to see me at home and the only moment in which my character is different from me is when I wake with a start! :)
So the conclusion is that I feel myself ”pink” also inside.
Who knows me thinks that I’m a sunny person, I love to smile, I’m ironic, extrovert, I like meeting new people, but I’m also shy, and without my family and my friends I would not know what to do!

• 7. Eri fan di Hello Kitty anche prima di essere scelta per il musical “Hello Kitty the Show“?
  Qual è il messaggio positivo che trasmette il tuo personaggio? Ti identifichi nel ruolo di Sally?
  7. Were you a Hello Kitty fan even before being chosen for the musical “Hello Kitty the Show”? What is the positive message of your character? What have you in common with Sally?

Sinceramente prima del musical non ero fan di Hello Kitty, ma ora fa parte della mia vita… e poi ha un musino così dolce… vi assicuro che quando in scena ci abbraccia o ci accarezza è emozionante anche per noi perchè entriamo veramente nella dimensione della favola e del sogno.
Mi ha colpito molto sapere che Hello Kitty è ambasciatrice Unicef per i diritti dell’infanzia!
Il messaggio che vogliamo portare è quello di continuare a credere nei propri sogni e lavorare per cercare di realizzarli.
Quello che cerco sempre di trasmettere col mio personaggio nel quale come dicevo prima mi identifico tantissimo è quello di credere nell’amicizia e nell’amore perchè davvero così una persona cambia e trova il coraggio per affrontare tutto!
E sorridere… all’inizio dello spettacolo non rido mai, son sempre diffidente ma poi… sorridere è davvero importante!!

Honestly before the musical I was not a Hello Kitty fan, but now she is part of my life… and then her little nose is so sweet… I assure you that when she is on stage and she embraces or caresses us it’s exciting because we get really into the dimension of the story and the dream.
I was very impressed to know that Hello Kitty is an ambassador for Unicef for children’s rights!
We want to bring the message of keeping on believing in dreams and of working to try to achieve them.
Through my character, with whom I identify myself, I always try to convey to believe in friendship and in love because thanks to them a person changes and has the courage to face everything!
And smile… at the beginning of the show I do not laugh, I am always suspicious but then… smiling is really important!

• 8. Quanto lavoro e impegno c’è dietro a “Hello Kitty the Show“?
  Che rapporto hai instaurato con i giovanissimi membri del cast, con Marina e Tania?
  8. How many work and care are there behind “Hello Kitty the Show“?
  What relationship have you estabilished with the young cast and with Marina and Tania [the other two Kitty Girls]?

Tanto lavoro e impegno… ma soprattutto passione, altrimenti si è perduti.
Mesi di prova dove mi sono anche dovuta misurare con discipline che non avevo mai fatto come cantare dal vivo e recitare!
È stata una bellissima esperienza da cui ho imparato e sto imparando tutt’ora.
È stato un lavoro anche creare uno spirito di gruppo… è normale, all’inizio non ci conoscevamo e siamo davvero tre ragazze molto diverse, come del resto lo sono le Kitty Girls… anche nella realtà quindi, che bello!
Ora tra me, Marina e Tania è nata una bellissima amicizia: sul palco si avverte questa energia, ci diamo forza a vicenda, ci divertiamo, siamo complici… è molto bello e raro trovare due colleghe così!
Anche con tutto il cast si è creato un bel rapporto… ci ritroviamo a cantare insieme nei momenti di pausa, a chiacchierare, scherzare… è bello quando c’è stima personale e artistica.

Hard work and care… but above all, passion, otherwise you are lost.
We have practised for months, when I put myself out to subjects that I never did like live singing and acting!
It was a wonderful experience from which I learned and I am still learning.
Creating a team spirit was a job… It is normal, at the beginning we did not know each other, and we’re three very different girls, as indeed the Kitty Girls are… therefore in the real life, it’s nice!
Now there is a beautiful friendship among Marina, Tania and me: on stage you feel this energy, we brace up each other, we have fun… It is very nice and rare to find two colleagues like them!
There is a beautiful relationship even with all the cast… we sing together during the breaks, we chat, we have fun… It is beautiful when there is personal and artistic esteem.

• 9. Qual è stata la soddisfazione più grande da quando è iniziato questo musical?
  Tra gli spettatori ci sono anche dei bambini molto piccoli, hai qualche aneddoto da raccontarci?
  9. What has the greatest satisfaction been since this musical has begun?
  There are many children among the audience, have you any story to tell us?

Beh, innanzitutto quando i miei genitori mi hanno detto che erano orgogliosi di me. Un’altra grande soddisfazione è stata quando la coreografa mi ha fatto i complimenti per come ho ballato il brano “Tu sei”, in particolare il momento dove il mio personaggio fa una svolta e capisce di essere innamorata, la prima volta che ho ascoltato quel brano mi sono commossa… Quando a Firenze sono venuti tutti i miei amici e alcune mie insegnanti e compagni di danza… piangevano… era la prima volta che mi vedevano in un ruolo non solo di ballerina ma anche di cantante e attrice… Per me è un’immensa felicità poter unire questi tre aspetti.
È bellissimo quando persone che non conosci ti aspettano e ti fanno i complimenti dicendoti che li hai emozionati… è quello che cerco di fare ogni volta che salgo su un palco… emozionare, offrire tutto al pubblico.
Devo ammettere che è stata una grande soddisfazione anche sentirmi fare i complimenti dai tecnici che ci seguono in tutta la tournée, sono persone che hanno lavorato con tanti artisti e che solitamente non vengono a dare il proprio giudizio.
È bellissimo vedere come le bambine si affezionino e si riconoscano in noi alla fine dello spettacolo.
Una volta una bambina mi ha aspettata fuori dal teatro mezz’ora pur di fare la foto con me dicendomi che ero stata la sua preferita e che anche lei voleva fare la ballerina.
Che tenerezza invece vedere bimbe che si vergognano a parlare con noi… una volta invece stavo uscendo dal teatro e avevo il cappello, e sento dire da una bimba “a me piaceva la kitty girl coi capelli viola!”…. che bello… i bambini sono meravigliosi e noi abbiamo una grande responsabilità nei loro confronti!

Well, first when my parents told me that they were proud of me. Another great satisfaction was when the choreographer compliments me on how I have danced the song “Tu sei” (”You are”), particularly when my character undestands to be in love, the first time that I heard that song I was moved… When in Florence all my friends and some of my teachers and dance classmates came to see the show… they cried… It was the first time they have watched me performing not only as a dancer but also as a singer and actress… For me it is an immense happiness to combine these three aspects.
It’s great when people, that you do not know, wait for you and compliment you… every time that I’m on stage I try to transmit emotions… to give everything to the public.
I must admit that it is a great pleasure that the technicians, who follow us during the entire tour, compliment me, they are people who have worked with many artists and usually they do not tell you their opinion.
It is beautiful that the little girls grow fond of us and identify themselves with us at the end of the show.
Once a child waited me outside the theater half an hour just to take a photo with me, saying that I was her favourite one and that she wanted to be a dancer.
It is tender to see that some little girls are ashamed to talk to us… Once I was leaving the theater, I was wearing a hat, and I heard a child saying “I liked the kitty girl with purple hair!”… It was nice… children are wonderful and we have a great responsibility towards them!

  10. What are your dreams and your plans for the future?

Sembrerà scontato, ma il mio sogno nel cassetto è poter continuare a lavorare nel mondo del teatro, mi piacerebbe girare l’Italia e il mondo… nel frattempo cerco di dare il massimo e fare bene gli spettacoli di Hello Kitty e continuare a studiare per migliorare sempre di più.

It may seem obvious, but my dream is to continue working in the theater, I’d love to tour Italy and the world… in the meantime I try to do my best and go hard at Hello Kitty shows and keep on studying to improve more and more.
