Lungo periodo di festeggiamenti per Sanrio!
Nel 2009 Hello Kitty ha compiuto 35 anni e l’anno scorso è stato celebrato il 50° anniversario di Sanrio. La serie di eventi, iniziata nel 2009 con Three Apples e conclusa nel 2010 con Small Gift, ha portato numerose opere d’arte ispirate ai personaggi di questo brand kawaii: quadri e… toys da collezione!
Long celebration of Sanrio!
Hello Kitty has just turned 35 in 2009 and we celebrated Sanrio 50th Anniversary last year. The series of events, that began with Three Apples in 2009 and ended with Small Gift in 2010, has brought many works of art inspired by the characters of this kawaii brand: paintings and… collectible toys!
- My Melody Bunny Dunny Custom by Joe Ledbetter
Joe Ledbetter, col suo tratto squadrato, ha customizzato il dunny in versione My Melody, come aveva fatto nelle sue tele esposte all’evento Small Gift. Peccato che questo toy sia unico e che costi $1,000.
Joe Ledbetter customized a dunny inspired by My Melody with his “square” style, like he did in his painting on display at Small Gift event. Unfortunately this toys is unique and costs $1,000.

Kidrobot ha creato in esclusiva per Sanrio una serie di personaggi interpretati da famosi artisti.
Nel mese di gennaio 2011 è stata completata la prima serie, composta da 4 toys alti 15 cm, disponibili alla cifra di $39.95 (£36.00 UK; 40€ Europe). Eccoli in ordine di uscita.
Kidrobot created a series of characters exclusively for Sanrio customized by famous artists.
The first series was released in January 2011, consisting of 4 toys which are 6 Inch high, available at price of $39.95 (£36.00 UK, €40 Europe). Here they are in order of release date.

- Magic Love Hello Kitty by Tara Mcpherson
Tara McPherson, famosa artista americana, ha interpretato Hello Kitty come una kawaii astronauta che fluttua nello spazio con una tutina verde acqua tenendo in mano una bacchetta magica.
Questo toy è il primo della serie ed è uscito a dicembre 2010.
Tara Mcpherson ha portato in vita il quadro che aveva creato per l’evento Three Apples di Los Angeles.
Tara McPherson, famous American artist, turns Hello Kitty into a kawaii astronaut floating in the space with a teal jumpsuit and holding a magic wand.
This toy is the first of the series and it was released in December 2010.
Tara McPherson has brought to life the painting that she created for Three Apples event in Los Angeles.

- Empress Of The Underworld Hello Kitty by Frank Kozik
Frank Kozik, artista street pop di San Francisco, come nel quadro che aveva creato per l’evento Three Apples di Los Angeles, ha trasformato la dolce e tranquilla Hello Kitty in… una diavoletta, o meglio, nell’Imperatrice degli Inferi! Tutta rossa, con corna, forcone, coda e dentini appuntiti. Di sicuro Hello Kitty ci fa sempre cadere in tentazione!
Frank Kozik, street pop artist from San Francisco, turns sweet and quiet Hello Kitty into… a devil or rather the empress of the Underworld! like he did in the painting made for Three Apples event in Los Angeles. She is all red with horns, pitchfork, tail and sharp teeth. Certainly Hello Kitty always makes us fall into temptation!

- Junkocat Chococat by Junko Mizuno
Junko Mizuno, l’artista horror kawaii giapponese per eccellenza, ha dato la sua versione “deformed” del gattino nero Chococat. Junkocat sembra che abbia subito una mutazione genetica, come se fosse uscito da una tela di Picasso, ma resta sempre e comunque carino e dolce.
Junko Mizuno, the horror kawaii Japanese artist par excellence, made a “deformed” version of Chococat, the black kitty. Junkocat seems to have undergone a genetic mutation, inspired by a Picasso’s painting, but it is always nice and sweet.

- Bad Badtz Maru by Amanda Visell
Amanda Visell, artista di Los Angeles, tinge il pinguino Batz Maru di blu ed elimina le dolci curve tipiche dei personaggi Sanrio, facendolo diventare squadrato e… cattivo! Bad Badtz Maru ha mangiato Hello Kitty: che sia invidioso della sua kawaiiness o che l’abbia ingoiata perchè è troppo dolce?
Amanda Visell, an artist from Los Angeles, colors the penguin Batz Maru blue and turns the typical smooth curves of Sanrio characters into square shapes… in addition he goes bad! Bad Badtz Maru ate Hello Kitty: is it envious of her kawaiiness or did he eat her because she is very sweet?

Mi sono piaciuti molto i ritratti, li ho trovati più evocativi e “visionari”… i toy comunque sono bellissimi!
Quello della Kitty cosmonauta è delizioso mentre Chococat “picassiano” è semplicemente geniale.
Il vostro articolo ci dimostra ancora una volta che la gattina ha davvero tante, tante “vite”… ;)

Anche io ho preferito la versione 2d a quella 3d, forse questo è anche dovuto al fatto che i vinyl toys perdono quelle sfumature molteplici che hanno i dipinti e che sono “giochi” sia per kawaii girl che per ragazzi.
In futuro spero di portarmi così bene 35 anni come Hello Kitty =^.^=

Tutte le illustrazioni di Joe Ledbetter mi piacciono tantissimo.
Tra i toys i miei preferiti sono l’interpretazione in versione fatina di Hello Kitty di Tara Mcpherson, e la versione blu cannibale di Badtz Maru… che secondo me è più kawaii dell’originale ^_^
