Melissa Haslam è un’artista australiana che dopo essersi laureata in Multimedia Technology alla Deakin University, ha lavorato per cinque anni full time nella realizzazione di grafiche multimediali.
Per far carriera si è trovata nella necessità di intraprendere un ruolo più manageriale piuttosto che meramente creativo ed in quel momento ha deciso di proseguire il suo percorso artistico, lavorando sulle proprie idee, diventando così un’artista a tempo pieno.

Melissa Haslam is an Australian artist who after graduating in Media Technology at Deakin University, worked full-time for five years in the development of graphics multimedia.
For her career she had to take a more managerial role rather than purely creative and at that time she decided to pursue her artistic career, working on her ideas, thus becoming a full time-artist.

Melissa Haslam viene influenzata dalle illustrazioni vintage, dai disegni botanici, ma anche dalle fotografie di moda e dai disegni vettoriali, reinterpretando questi elementi in chiave romantica e fantastica, portando i suoi soggetti in un ambiente sospeso, silenzioso e senza tempo, dove le ragazze, protagoniste dei suoi quadri, mostrano una profondità psicologica che può essere indagata dallo spettatore.

Melissa Haslam is influenced by vintage illustrations, botanical drawings, but also by fashion photography and vector drawings, reinterpreting these elements in a romantic and imaginative way, setting her subjects in a suspended, quiet and timeless environment, where girls, protagonists of her paintings, show a psychological depth that can be investigated by the viewer.

Melissa rappresenta spesso ragazze perchè essendo anche lei donna di sente istintivamente legata a questo soggetto, riuscendo ad esprimere tutta la sua sensibilità.
Un altro elemento caratterizzante dei suoi quadri è la raffigurazione della natura, che subisce forti influenze dalle classiche illustrazioni botaniche ed è determinante per conferire un’atmosfera delicata e romantica. L’artista ha recentemente svolto delle ricerche nell’ambito della flora e fauna australiana per portare la sua cultura e le sue origini all’interno dei suoi lavori.

Melissa often represents girls because she is a young woman and feels instinctively bound to this subject, being able to express her sensitivity.
Another distinguishing feature of her paintings is the depiction of nature, which is strongly influenced by classical botanical illustrations and is important to create a delicate and romantic atmosphere. The artist has recently carried out research in Australian flora and fauna to bring her culture and her origins within her works.

I quadri di Melissa Haslam sono delle favole, hanno una componente narrativa, prevalentemente psicologica, che descrive spesso il momento di transitorietà dall’adolescenza all’età adulta, dall’innocenza alla maturità.

Melissa Haslam’s paintings are fairytails, they have a narrative component, mainly psychological, which often describes the path from adolescence to adulthood, from innocence to maturity.
