Mystic Lolitas: the Mijn Schatje solo show has a perfect name.
From May 16 to May 30, 2010, at the Dorothy Circus Gallery in Rome (Italy), you can admire 14 new works of this artist who paints using vector techniques and whose we have recently published the interview and we have ”sponsored” the contest.
Lolitas are the theme of the exhibition: seductive and charming adolescents, who captivate the viewer through their big eyes.

Down the room there is a large mirror with the mask that Mijn Schatje has created for her contest: anyone, mirroring, can become a mystic lolita and a be part of Mijn’s dolls.

We have customized our masks too, making up them and making them wear the same accessories that we wore at the opening, and so, as at a masked ball, we went to the show on April 16 at 19:30 and we had the honor to shake hands with the artist. Marie (this is the Mijn Schatje real name) wore a huge bow in her hair that made her really kawaii, like a doll.

Little curiosities that Marie told us and pearls from the show:

  • Marie confessed us that her art name, Mijn Schatje is rarely pronounced in the right way, but however she is happy to have chosen it, because it reminds her origins.
  • Marie told us that every person, who looks at her paintings, arises an opinion about her and it is surprising to know the multiplicity of impressions that come out… the truth is that people are reflected in the subject and interpret it according to their moods and experiences.
  • The hair of her “mystic lolita” is made one by one and it is a very long process, but her fans love it so much and it is so successful that she prefers not to make hair too simple and stylized any more.
  • Humor pearl: drawing hair takes a long time, so she was happy to realize Noa character, created by Barbara Canepa, because she has her head shaved.
  • Marie prefers to use the mouse instead of the tablet because in this way she can be very accurate, she doesn’t work with the strokes, but with the points and the curves.
  • Marie spends most of her time working in digital, so if a friend calls her to ask for some functions of the program, she is able to respond by heart without being in front of her Macintosh.
  • Marie’s favorite piece of her collection of accessories, made for La Marelle, is the brooch with the face of the girl with the headband, and she wore it during the opening.
  • When she worked for Fornarina, she got a dreamy bonus: choosing whatever she wanted from the store.
  • At the show Marie made autographs using a beautiful silver glitter pen.
