Reversible Destiny è un progetto-utopia di Arakawa e Madeline Gins, che si definiscono artisti, architetti e poeti, e dal 1963 hanno fatto ricerche sugli ambienti che sfidano i limiti umani.

Reversible Destiny is a Arakawa and Madeline Gins‘ utopia-project, they call themselves artists, architects and poets, and they have made a research into environments that defy human boundaries since 1963.

Nel 1987 nasce così Architectural Body Research Foundation, che collabora e dialoga con scienze che non necessariamente sono direttamente collegate con l’architettura, come la biologia sperimentale, la neurologia, la fisica quantistica, la fenomenologia sperimentale e la medicina.

Architectural Body Research Foundation was started in 1987, it collaborates and dialogues with sciences that are not necessarily directly related to architecture, such as experimental biology, neuroscience, quantum physics, experimental phenomenology, and medicine.

Tra i vari progetti che hanno interessato la fondazione, rientra appunto Reversible Destiny, un palazzo composto da nove appartamenti a Mitaka (Tokyo). Il motto è “l’architettura contro la morte“, perchè i colori e le forme stupiscono e attraggono, fanno tornare bambini e spingono a osservare ogni angolo dell’edificio con curiosità, alla ricerca di angoli nascosti e rifugi segreti.

Reversible Destiny is one among the many projects involving the foundation, it is a building consisting of nine apartments in Mitaka (Tokyo). The motto is “Architecture against death“, because the colors and the shapes attract and amaze, making return to childhood they push to watch with curiosity every corner of the building, in search of hidden places and secret refuges.

L’ambiente interno non è confortevole, ma i dislivelli e le irregolarità non permettono alla routine di prendere il sopravvento, spingono a cercare sempre nuove strade, a non perdere la concentrazione, a mantenere l’equilibrio e a tenersi in forma.
Le pareti lisce e arrotondate invitano a lasciarsi cullare e in alcune stanze si possono trovare delle altalene o scoprire delle zone per la meditazione.

The interior is not comfortable, but the unevennesses and the irregularities do not let the routine get the upper hand, they always push to seek new ways, not to break concentration, to keep balance and to keep fit.
The smooth and rounded walls make people be lulled and there are swings or areas for meditation in some rooms.

Sicuramente non è un ambiente ergonomico, confortevole e vivibile, ma sarebbe divertente sperimentare la permanenza per qualche giorno e ritornare ad essere dei bambini curiosi di tutto e alle prese con le piccole conquiste motorie.

Definitely It is not an ergonomic, comfortable and livable environment, but it would be fun to try staying there for a few days and to return to childhood, to be curious about everything and to achieve some small motor challenges.
