Non Solo Kawaii

Una guida di viaggi grazie alla quale, con un tocco di fantasia, si può raggiungere il paese immaginario Schlaraffenland.
Schlaraffenland, tradotto dal tedesco, non è altro che il fantastico paese di Cuccagna, citato spesso nella letteratura, e caratterizzato dal benessere, l’abbondanza e la vita in armonia.
Natalie Birkle (1983 - Kazakhstan) si è ispirata a questa utopia, modernizzandola e dandole delle connotazioni reali, ed ha creato una guida “The Schlaraffenland, un viaggio fantastico” con mappe geografiche, illustrazioni paesaggistiche e descrizioni, grazie alle quale chiunque può volare con la fantasia e raggiungere questo paese utopico.
Una guida colorata ed illustrata con immagini vettoriali, realizzate con Illustrator CS3, dove ogni soggetto è composto da forme geometrice riccamente sfumate e decorate, in un turbinio di oggetti e dettagli kawaii che giocano su cinque colori dominanti: viola, azzurro, verde, rosso e giallo, ciascuno dei quali caratterizzante una determinata regione.
A travel guide through which, it’s possible to reach, with a touch of fantasy, the imaginary country Schlaraffenland.
Schlaraffenland, translated from German, is nothing but the fantastic land of Cockaigne, often mentioned in the literature and described as a land of prosperity, abundance and life in harmony.
Natalie Birkle (1983 - Kazakhstan) was inspired by this utopia, modernizing it and giving it some real connotations, and she created a guide to “The Schlaraffenland, a fantastic journey” with maps, illustrations of the landscape and descriptions, thanks to which everyone can fly with the fantasy and reach this utopian country.
The guide is colorful and illustrated with vector images, designed by Illustrator CS3, where each subject is composed of geometric shapes richly shaded and decorated, in a flurry of objects and kawaii details based on five dominant colors: purple, blue, green, red and yellow, each of which characterizes a particular region.

Questa guida raccoglie in un cofanetto 5 volumi.
Quattro volumi dedicati ciascuno ad una regione ed un quinto volume per le informazioni generali su Schlaraffenland, gli abitanti, il clima, la flora e la fauna che contiene anche una grande mappa panormaica per orientarsi a Schlaraffenland.
This guide contains 5 volumes in a slipcase.
Four volumes each dedicated to a region and a fifth volume for the general information about the Schlaraffenland, the inhabitants, the waether and flora & fauna and it includes a big Schlaraffenland overview-map for orientation.

• La lussuosa Luxusyana (dal tedesco “luxus”, che significa “lusso”)
  The opulent Luxusyana (from the German “luxus”, that means ”luxury”)

È il regno del consumismo dove si trovano vestiti, gioielli, bellezza e giovinezza.
Here is the place for consuming things like clothes, jewellery, beauty and youth.

Schnayder è un albero speciale nel distretto di Luxusyana.
Produce vestiti su misura per tutti.
Schnayder is a special tree in the district Luxusyana.
He produces custom-made clothes for everyone.

Raychmania è la città più lussureggiante dell’intera Schlaraffenland. Si trova in Luxusyana.
Tutto ciò che luccica in questa città è fatto d’oro. Il mezzo di trasporto preferito sono i pesci rossi (in inglese pesce rosso è goldfish, letteralmente “pesce d’oro”). Possono volare in alto nel cielo!
Raychmania is the most luxuriant city in the whole Schlaraffenland. It grows in Luxusyana.
All that glitters, is gold in that city. The favourite means of transport are the goldfish there. They can fly to top of the sky!

• La confortevole Faulenzya (dal tedesco “faulenzen”, che significa “oziare”)
  The comfortable Faulenzya (from the German “faulenzen”, word for “to laze”)

È il regno del relax, del sonno o semplicemente del far nulla.
Here is the place for relaxing, sleeping or just do nothing.

Hängemazzen è il villaggio fluttuante di Faulenzya.
Gli abitanti di Schlarafferland fanno solo dei giretti qui attorno e si divertono a fare nulla e ad entrare nei paesaggi sognanti che vengono creati dagli uccellini durante i loro voli.
Hängemazzen is a floating village in Faulenzya.
Schlaraffens just hang around there and enjoy doing nothing or entering the dreamy landscape, the birds produce during their flights.

• La deliziosa Schlemmenau (dal tedesco “schlemmen”, che significa ”banchettare”)
  The delicious Schlemmenau (from the German “schlemmen”, word for “to feast”)

È il regno del cibo, qui si mangia e si beve di tutto.
Il distretto è caratterizzato da un’architettura mangiabile.
Here is the place for eating, just eating and drinking everything.
The district is characterised by a feeding-architecture.

Zuccher Landschaft è il paesaggio delle caramelle nel distretto di Schlemmenau.
Piove zucchero tutto il giorno e tutta la notte e ci sono dolci ovunque in questa regione. I dolci cadono persino dal cielo… Puoi fare anche un giro in slittino sulle montagne dolci rocciose.
Zuccher Landschaft is a candy landscape in the district Schlemmenau.
Sugar rains the whole day and night there and there are candies everywhere in that region. Candy even grows from the sky… You can make a sledge tour through the candy-rocky mountains.

• La divertente Amysierien (dal tedesco “amysieren”, che significa “divertirsi”)
  The pleasurable Amysierien (from the German “amysieren”, word for “to amuse”)

È il regno del gioco, del divertimento, delle risate e degli innamorati.
Here is the place for playing, having fun, laughing and falling in love.

Karüsselsheim è la città nel distretto di Amysierien.
La città è illuminata da così tante luci che il sole non ha bisogno di sorgere.
Karüsselsheim è come una grande giostra, che ruota tutto il tempo, e gli abitanti, così come i visitatori, devono stare attenti a non impazzire…
Karüsselsheim is a city in the district Amysierien.
This city is illuminated by so many lights, that the sun even doesn´t need to rise.
Karüsselsheim is like a big carousel, which rotates all the time and inhabitants, as well as visitors, have to look out for not getting mad…

Si può dire che l’Elfante sia una creatura unica, un incrocio tra un elefante ed un elfo, e questa creatura dolce e leggera vola sopra la regione di Amysierien e fa il parrucchiere ed il massaggiatore mobile.
You could say Elfant is a unique creature, that is a mixture of an elephant an elf, and this tender feathery creature flies over the region Amysierien and allegorise the mobile hairdresser and masseur.

“The Schlaraffenland - un viaggio fantastico” è il progetto di tesi con cui Natalie Birkle si è laureata nel luglio 2009 in Comunicazione Visiva all’Università di Scienze Applicate di Pforzheim. Una prova che anche i progetti di tesi, possono essere kawaii.
Peccato non poter avere tra le mani questa guida! Non ci resta altro che sognare il paese di Cuccagna osservando queste illustrazioni così kawaii…
“The Schlaraffenland - a fantastic journey” is the thesis project of Natalie Birkle who graduated in July 2009 in Visual Communication at the University of Applied Sciences in Pforzheim. A proof that even the thesis projects can be kawaii.
It’s a pity that it’s not possible to own this guide! We can only dream of the land of Cockaigne and watch these so kawaii illustrations…
