From August 26 to September 22 you can admire, at the Ultralounge at Selfridges in London, 40-year history of shoes, signed by the grand dame of British fashion, the queen of punk, Vivienne Westwood.

Tra le prime scarpe che acquistò Vivienne Westwood ricorda un paio di stiletto negli anni ‘50, che indossò per andare a scuola e che il suo maestro commentò dicendo:

One of the first shoes, which Vivienne Westwood bought, was a pair of stiletto in the 50s that she wore to school and her teacher said:

Negli anni ‘90 l’ispirazione va alla lana inglese e al tartan, che ritorna di gran moda e ispirerà anche l’Oriente.
Noi Kawaii girls non possiamo non ricordare l’uso smodato dei modelli in Tartan e delle scarpe Rocking Horse che Ai Yazawa fa indossare a Nana, protagonista del suo famosissimo manga.
Proprio in Giappone Vivienne Westwood riscuote un grande successo e dichiara:

I giovani giapponesi, specialmente, amano indossare le ultime novità e quando vengono a Londra si dirigono nel mio negozio come parte di quello che vogliono tovare in Gran Bretagna.

In the 90s the inspiration is British wools and tartans, which are fashionable and will inspire even the East.
We Kawaii girls remember the unrestrained use of Tartan models and of Rocking Horse shoes which Ai Yazawa draws on Nana, the protagonist of her famous manga.
Just in Japan Vivienne Westwood is very successful and says:

The young Japanese, especially, love to wear the latest thing and when they come to London they head for my shops as part of what they want to find in Britain.

Infine, come si può vedere nelle fotografie in allestimento, è celebre lo scivolone di Naomi Campbell il 17 marzo del 1993, durante una sfilata parigina di Vivienne Westwood, a causa delle scarpe Mock-Crock Elevated Gillies.
Riguardo quell’evento la stilista dice:

Sembrava una gazzella a rallentatore. È stato fantastico, non è mai stata così bella.
Naturalmente è anche una donna molto orgogliosa, e così ha riso, ma quando è venuta nel backstage era arrabbiatissima con me.

At last, as it can be seen in the photographs of the exhibition, it is famous Naomi Campbell’s fall on March 17, 1993, during Vivienne Westwood fashion show in Paris, because of the Mock Crock-Elevated Gillies shoes.
Remembering this event, the designer says:

She looked like a gazelle in slow motion. It was fantastic, she never looked more beautiful.
She’s a very proud woman of course, and so she laughed, but when she got backstage she was so angry with me.
