Dumbo è il remake live action del classico film di animazione della Disney del 1941, ispirato al romanzo di Helen Aberson e Harold Pearl.
Dumbo è diretto da Tim Burtun e vede un cast stellare come Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny De Vito, Eva Green e Alan Arkin.
In USA è uscito il 29 marzo e in Italia il 28 marzo, dove ha raggiunto l’incasso di 3.3 milioni di euro solo nel primo weekend.

Dumbo is the live action remake of the classic 1941 Disney animated movie, inspired by the novel by Helen Aberson and Harold Pearl.
Dumbo is directed by Tim Burtun and stars Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny De Vito, Eva Green and Alan Arkin.
It was released on March 29th in USA and on March 28th in Italy, grossing here 3.3 million euro only on the first weekend.

Trama / Plot

Nel 1919 Holt Farrier, acrobata equestre del circo Medici, torna dalla guerra e dai suoi figli dopo aver perso il braccio e la moglie.
Non potendo più esibirsi gli viene offerto l’incarico di accudire un elefante indiano che darà presto alla luce un piccolo dalle orecchie enormi.
Il piccolo goffo elefantino ha la straordinaria capacità di volare e diventerà presto preso di mira da V. A. Vandevere, un potente imprenditore, che acquisirà il circo Medici e allontanerà il piccolo dalla madre.
Inizia così il percorso di Dumbo per riunirsi alla madre e assaporare la libertà, aiutato dalla famiglia Farrier e dalla trapezista Colette Marchant.

In 1919 Holt Farrier, equestrian performer of the Medici circus, returns after the war to his children after losing his arm and his wife.
He can’t perform any more, so he is offered the task of looking after an Indian elephant that soon gives birth to a baby with huge ears.
The small clumsy elephant has the extraordinary ability to fly and soon is targeted by V. A. Vandevere, a powerful entrepreneur, who acquires the Medici circus and remove the little elefant from his mother.
It’s the beginning of the path of Dumbo to rejoin his mother and to freedom, helped by the Farrier family and the trapeze artist Colette Marchant.

Commento / Review

Il remake di Dumbo non delude le aspettative, la sceneggiatura è stata resa più moderna e in linea con i nostri tempi abbandonando i momenti eticamente scorretti contestualizzati solo negli anni ‘40.
Di Burton riconosciamo le atmosfere noir e la celebrazione dei freaks, un immaginario surreale ma vicino ai cuori del pubblico.
Bellissimo vedere Michael Keaton (ex Batman) e Danny De Vito (ex Pinguino), recitare insieme stavolta con ruoli invertiti di buono e cattivo.
Forse in questo film il villain, V. A. Vandevere, perde un po’ di profondità perché risulta una persona puramente malvagia senza conoscerne bene le cause.
Dumbo, realizzato magistralmente con i suoi grandissimi occhi espressivi che danno voce alle sue emozioni, farà innamorare il pubblico in sala.
Un film da non perdere!

Dumbo’s remake does not disappoint, the screenplay is modern and up to date, setting aside the ethically incorrect moments of the classic movie.
We can recognise Burton’s noir atmospheres and the celebration of freaks, a surreal imaginary but close to the hearts of the public.
It’s beautiful to see Michael Keaton (formerly Batman) and Danny De Vito (formerly Penguin), acting together this time with reversed roles of hero and villain.
Perhaps in this film the main villain, V. A. Vandevere, doesn’t have the right depth because he turns out to be a purely evil person without knowing his story.
Dumbo, masterfully made with his huge expressive eyes that give voice to his emotions, makes the audience fall in love.
A movie not to be missed!
