“Si Alza il Vento” diretto da Hayao Miyazaki e prodotto dallo Studio Ghibli, dopo più di un anno dall’uscita nelle sale giapponesi (luglio 2013) e presentato in concorso alla 70ª Mostra internazionale d’arte cinematografica di Venezia, è sbarcato anche in Italia, seppur distribuito nei nostri cinema per soli 5 giorni (dal 12 al 16 settembre).

“The Wind Rises” directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli, released more than a year ago in Japan (July 2013) and played in competition at the 70th Venice International Film Festival, was finally presented in Italy, unfortunately for only 5 days (form September 12 to 16).

“Si Alza il Vento” si discosta dalle altre opere del regista perché tratta temi reali, accantonando magia e misticismo a favore di scene oniriche piuttosto, il protagonista è per la prima volta ispirato a un personaggio reale, l’ingegnere aeronautico giapponese Jirō Horikoshi, inoltre l’arco narrativo si svolge in 30 anni e la storia non si conclude in pochi giorni.

“The Wind Rises” is different from other Miyazaki’s works because it deals with everyday life, there are no magic and mysticism but dreamlike scenes instead, the protagonist is inspired by a real person for the first time, the Japanese aeronautical engineer Jirō Horikoshi, then the story arc takes place in 30 years, and not in a few days.

• Trama / Plot

Jirō è un ragazzo giapponese che sogna di diventare pilota di aerei, ma la sua miopia glielo impedisce, finchè nei suoi sogni non si connette all’ingegnere aeronautico italiano Giovanni Battista Caproni che lo incoraggia e lo ispira, spingendolo a diventare un progettista perché la vera soddisfazione non è guidare un aereo, cosa che può fare chiunque, ma costruire il velivolo perfetto.
Jirō così tra sconfitte e successi insegue il suo obiettivo in un periodo di recessione e guerre, dove vede le sue creazioni messe a disposizione dell’industria militare, e al contempo riesce a coltivare il suo amore per la dolce Nahoko.

Jirō is a Japanese boy who dreams of becoming an aircraft pilot, but his poor eyesight forbids it, until in his dreams he finds a connection to the aeronautical Italian engineer Giovanni Battista Caproni who encourages and inspires him, prompting him to become a designer because building the perfect airplane is better than flying it.
Jirō pursues his goal between successes and failures in a time of war and recession, where he sees his creations sold to the military industry, and at the same time he reaches to make his love for the sweet Nahoko grow.

• Commento / Review

“Si Alza il Vento”, decimo e forse ultimo lungometraggio di Miyazaki, tratta con estrema delicatezza temi impegnati e drammatici, legati da un’ode alla vita che ci accompagna per tutto il film « Le vent se lève!… il faut tenter de vivre ».
Miyazaki è riuscito a elevare a un linguaggio poetico le sue stesse contraddizioni attraverso Jirō: progettista di aerei e di sogni, ma anche di morte perché realizzerà i famosi Mitsubishi A6M Zero, usati anche dai Kamikaze, dove l’amore per la natura e la spiritualità si lega alle macchine, che nei sogni del protagonista assumono sembianze di uccelli.
Un film sicuramente impegnativo, ma che è impossibile non amare.

“The Wind Rises raises”, the tenth and perhaps the last movie directed by Miyazaki, deals social and dramatic themes with extreme delicacy, linked by an ode to life that accompanies us throughout the film « Le vent se lève!… il faut tenter de vivre ».
Miyazaki has managed to bring his own contradictions to a poetic level through Jirō: he designs planes and dreams, but also death because he will develope the famous Mitsubishi A6M, that was also adapted for use in kamikaze operations, the love for nature and spirituality is connected to the machines, that take shape of birds in the protagonist’s dreams.
This film is definitely challenging to watch but impossible not to love it.
